Please join us for an employer orientation on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM to learn about the Jump Start program, the candidates, and the employer commitment.
What is Jump Start?
The Jump Start training program was developed by the CWDA in 2014 to provide a pathway for young adults aged 18-25 to receive entry-level construction training and secure employment in the construction industry. Jump Start runs full time throughout the month of June. Students attend class at Grand Rapids Community College MTEC from 7:30 am. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. During the first week of class, the CWDA works with students as they research careers in the industry. Students identify a career pathway that they think will be a good fit for them (electrician, carpenter, mason, project manager, etc.). Based on this research, the CWDA works with employers in these trades to provide job shadow experiences and interview students at the end of the program. In 2017, 88% of students attending Jump Start were immediately employed in the construction industry. There are 18 students enrolled in the 2018 Jump Start program who will be ready to work in July.
