BELMONT, Mich. — A Grand Rapids-based window, door and hardware company is expanding into a renovated facility at 5617 West River Dr. NE in Belmont on April 16.

Architectural Openings & Access has been in business for more than 15 years, based out of their original building located at 2050 Turner Ave NE in Grand Rapids. The company’s commercial division offers hollow metal frames, doors and hardware; the residential division offers window and door products. As both divisions have continued to grow, their space in the building on Turner Ave has not. To embrace this growth, and encourage future growth, a restructuring of the company was necessary.

In restructuring the company, it was decided that it was time to split the commercial from the residential portion of this business. In doing so, Architectural Openings & Access moved its residential portion of the business to a new home — the AOA Design Center.

This design center will be the new home for the residential operations of Architectural Openings & Access. This retail storefront building will act as West Michigan’s premier residential window and door showroom. But it is much more than that. Not only will this building act as a great resource for homeowners to view window and door products, it will also be an advantageous resource to builders, designers, architects and other trade professionals.

The new state-of-the-art design center will feature all different models, sizes, styles, and finishes of the trusted window and door companies we offer. Those lines include Marvin Windows and Doors, Integrity Windows and Doors, Infinity Windows and Doors, Therma-tru Doors, as well as our newly added product line, Windsor Windows and Doors. Guests will be able to walk through our design center, feel, touch, and experience a wide variety of window and door options. Our knowledgeable sales staff will be there to help educate homeowners on our product offerings, while also demonstrating the many features of each window and door manufacturer.

Trade professionals will have the ease of meeting with their clients at our facility to work with our team in finding the perfect window and/or door solution for their project. There they will have access to comfortable meeting spaces with large TV screens to view their prints, product specifications, or anything else that may assist in finding the right window or door solution for their client’s project.

The design center is managed by Bob Spoelstra, who has been working in the home improvement industry for over 25 years now and has been with AOA for the last two years. Spoelstra’s diverse knowledge of all aspects of the window and door industry make him the ideal candidate to manage our design center.

“When we first set out to build a design center, we wanted to create something more than just another showroom. We wanted to uniquely create a window buying experience. We feel we’ve accomplished that with the AOA Design Center.”
Bob Spoelstra - General Manager

“The design center will give West Michigan homeowners the opportunity to see and feel a vast array of window and door products. Rather than having the products in generic displays, we’ve installed them in openings with high-end interior and exterior building materials. This gives homeowners an opportunity to experience what it’s like to operate each unit, rather than see it in a booklet or view a small hand sample.”
Bob Spoelstra - General Manager

“The design center will also be a great tool for builders, architects, and designers. Our new space has convenient meeting spaces with access to large TV’s for trade professionals to meet and view prints with their clients. There they can meet with our staff to find the right window or door product for their specific need.”
Bob Spoelstra - General Manager

Architectural Openings & Access has always maintained a consultative approach to residential window and door sales. The goal of our sales consultants is to educate homeowners on products available to them. Our team walks homeowners through the entire process to help them make a decision based on their preferences and the specific needs of their home. This consultative approach is an example of our continued effort of providing superior customer service to those we serve.
